Indigenous communities and rights groups across Canada braved winter temperatures for a national day of protest in a campaign they say is growing into the largest and most unified indigenous rights movement in years. The ongoing "Idle No More" protests were sparked by the controversial C-45 budget legislation, a bill which indigenous leaders say ignores previous treaties in order to control reserve lands without consulting them.

Members of the First Nations, as indigenous communities are known in Canada, are demanding action from the Canadian government and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
